When your kids have left home there can often be a host of issues to address, not the least of which is having an empty house that still needs lots of attention. After what may seem like a lifetime of taking care of others, your focus as a couple – or as an individual – now needs to shift to thinking about what is best for YOU.
The house you now live in may very well be perfect for what the future may hold. If that is the case, then all that may be needed is to do those minor conversions that will make it easier for you to maintain and keep it ready for when the grandkids start to show up – if they already haven’t! At the least, all homes eventually require some ongoing maintenance and having a reliable and trustworthy maintenance man or contractor (for the bigger issues) is something you should always have ready… even if you’ve always been a DIY-type person. I can personally attest that the day will eventually come when you can’t do EVERYTHING yourself… no matter how much you want to.
So, if needed, as a Realtor® I have developed numerous connections throughout our community with quality professionals who do great and affordable work — and that I personally know and trust. If you have a household need of any type, I can share some of these with you – from occasional house cleaning to major “junk” removal; to legal or financial advice; to really big projects! If you have a major renovation in mind, I also know several local lenders who can help you access some or most of your equity to get the job done – as well as other professionals who can design and build the changes you want.
This includes those items on your list that will allow you to age-in-place – gracefully. With so many seniors now wanting to stay in the home they are currently in for the rest of their lives, modifying their home to prepare it for the challenges aging brings (and I am familiar with this!) is becoming very common. If any of this strikes a chord with you, email or call me so we can discuss whatever you want to have clarified. This is FREE advice. All I ask in return is if the information I provide turns out to be worthwhile in helping you stay in your current home… tell your friends and neighbors. Better yet, give them one of my free books that will be of real value if they are thinking of selling their home, or maybe just renting it out and buying another more appropriate sized or better located house. These books are thorough and no agent will call on them unless they ask.
If you are considering selling your house to either down- or up-size to that dream home, or maybe to move into a senior community… PLEASE call me first so I can share all the things you need to know before you list your house. I have several free books that will clearly lay out how to get the most for your house, over the shortest period of time. Some of what is shared will explain what will give you the greatest return on any fix-up items you might be considering – and what you should NEVER do – to get the the best return on any additional investment in your current home. Planning is the key… so let’s work together to make sure the timing is right.
That means we should start talking MONTHS before you actually plan to sell or buy. If you are thinking about purchasing a different home locally, I will help you find the perfect one in any community you select. And, if your plans include moving out of the area, I can put you in touch with another top-notch Realtor® anywhere in the U.S. – or world – you want to go! Contact me, you’ll be glad you did.
